ハンディ W. C. Handyという人が、
ミシシッピー流域の黒人の間に流行していた音楽形式を、
セントルイスブルースとして発表しました。
日本で言うと、
都々逸（どどいつ）のようなのを、採譜して、
ヨーロッパ風の芸術音楽の、歌曲の体裁に、
編集した感じ。
Ma man's got a heart like a rock cast in de sea と、
最初に歌っているような、メロディとリズムが、
広く流行していたようです。
色々な言葉を乗せて、一日中、歌っています。
エタ・ジェイムズ Etta James が、
2012年１月に、亡くなったばかりなので、
彼女にしました。
ブルースの女王の、ベシー・スミス Bessie Smith が、
いちばん有名かも。
わたしは、ベルカントの発声法しか、
習ったことがないので、
ブルースや都々逸が、大好きです。
楽譜にある歌詞と、違う文句を歌っていますけれど、
アメリカ合衆国の流行歌手は、みんなそうです。
ヨーロッパの古典のようには、行きません。
